How Do I Create a Webpage?

HTML is the 'programming language' used to create a homepage.

One way to create a simple homepage is to search the web and when you see a page you like, just save the page's html to your hard drive which you can bring up later in a text editor or a web publishing program such as Webmania, Frontpage or whatever you would like.

A simple page is best at first. Click Here for a sample webpage.

You can add colors, graphics and animations to your page as well. Keep in mind that a smaller graphic is always better because it will load faster. There are sites on the net which can help you to select colours and backgrounds.

There are many books which can help guide you through the process available at reputable bookstores.

Hints

  1. Once you've created a web page on your local computer, you will need to upload it to our web hosting computer.
  2. Unix (our operating system) is case-sensitive. Make sure the case of your links and filenames match
  3. If you are using a directory structure, you may need to Telnet into our system to create the directories needed
  4. Because the name of the start page is ‘index.html’, you need to make links to your start page use ‘index.html’.
  5. Instructions for counters.
  6. If you are debugging CGI (Common Gateway Interface) you'll probably need to check the Errors Log
